Celebration of Abilities – BC Paralympics 2010 – by Nizar Shivji

The Paralympics movements have the membership of people with disability of all kinds. We talk about the person with an amputation, wheel chair bound and the human disabilities which are beyond our comprehension. These challenges do not see the colors, the class or the countries where they come from. Respectfully, we are all equal!

The purpose of Paralympics inspires everyone who wishes to compete despite the disability the person has suffered. This suffering has made them stronger and able to compete in these games with modern wheel chair and the modern technology which is made available to suit their need to compete successfully. This is, of course, our new world which has showered variety of opportunities in form of achievements and inventions to make us complete and to accept the challenges with the bestowed new independence, strength, and courage.

2010 Winter ParalympicsIn BC today, we are celebrating the “BC PARALYMICS 2010” with pomp, with song and dances, and the ceremonies which makes us emotional and happy. This is also making everyone equal and enjoy a legacy of our contribution in any way we have participated.

In this “PARALYMPICS GAMES,” 1500 athletes from 44 countries are participating. There are smiles, emotions, show of courage, and strength; we see many different kind of wheel chairs. It is an inspiration! It is an acceptance! It is again making our dream come true, to be independent! It has become part of life for one who needs it but has also given one much-needed independence.

The understanding that I have acquired from these physically disabled people has helped me to fulfill my task with my loss and accept whatever trial and tribulations comes my way. Today, my past is past! What matters now is tomorrow! I thank the almighty for making my challenges smaller than me!

My very good wishes to everyone who is participating in this “BC PARALYMPICS GAMES 2010.”
