The government is looking to get involved in cancer management in the country, which has been left to donors and well-wishers, crippling efforts to tame the killer disease in Kenya.
Centralisation of cancer management is one of the key problems the country faces, hinged on lack of resources both financial and manpower.
While diagnosis can be done at some of the government’s provincial hospitals, only two hospitals — Kenyatta National Hospital and Nairobi Hospital — have the facilities for radiotherapy.
The Aga Khan University Hospital is currently setting up a radiotherapy unit.
