The Silk Road Ensemble performed at the Aga Khan Award for Architecture Ceremony in India

Raman Ramakrishnan , 33, a professional musician who plays the cello, is quite like his father and Nobel prize winner for chemistry, Venkatraman or ‘Venki’. Below is an excerpt from his interview with TNN.

Q. Have you performed in India before, apart from the Sangat music festival?

I have performed in New Delhi and in Agra with the Silk Road Ensemble , a project of the cellist Yo-Yo Ma. The idea behind the Ensemble is to discover common themes in the music of different countries along the ancient Silk Road. In New Delhi , we performed at Humayun’s Tomb, and in Agra, we performed at the Agra Fort. Both concerts were part of the Aga Khan’s Award for Architecture Ceremony, which was a fascinating event.
