Houston, Texas, June 15, 2009. Today at the Sweetwater Country Club in Sugar Land, 154 golfers took a swing at ending global poverty in the annual Partnership Golf Tournament. Partnership Golf is an initiative of Aga Khan Foundation U.S.A. (AKF USA) to raise awareness and funds that reduce hunger, disease, illiteracy and poverty in Africa and Asia. Approximately $220,000 was raised at today’s charity event.
Golfers are treated to a nice massage on the course to relax as the heat in Houston gets up to 100 degrees.A helicopter is lowered as participants watch to see if their ball goes in the hole, for a chance to win a dirt bike. Mohammad Virani was the lucky winner with First Insurance Company.Golfers practice on the range prior to going out with 150 plus other golfers to raise awareness of Global Poverty.Chairman, Naushad Kermally, gives the Welcome address and announces that the day long event raised over $220,000.00 which is $90,000.00 more than last year.
