February 5, 2009: When detected at their advanced stages, diseases can be difficult and expensive to treat.
To save a number of Kenyans who die from otherwise treatable diseases due to late detection, the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi has acquired two ultra-modern machines that will help doctors diagnose diseases in their early stages.
Through this technology, doctors can detect early signs of diseases like osteoporosis, cancers, as well as heart, liver, lung, bone, thyroid and kidney conditions and start treatment.
Prior to this technology, patients sought treatment when illnesses had reached critical stages, while others had to go abroad for treatment. However, this is likely to change with the new technology.
