VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – He’s the spiritual leader to 15 million Ismaili Muslims, and the Aga Khan wrapped up a special Canadian tour with a visit to Vancouver, and a luncheon in his honour arranged by the Premier.
Flanked by two Canadian flags, six B.C. banners, and the Aga Khan’s personal red and green standard, Premier Gordon Campbell paid tribute to his decades of charitable work–the most famous example of which is the World Partnership Walk. “Right now…even today, your hand and your message is carried through 29 nations around the world and it touches us all.”
A roster of Lower Mainland dignitaries filled the room at the Pan Pacific, including Vancouver Mayor-Elect Gregor Robertson, retired broadcaster Vicki Gabereau, and VPD Chief Jim Chu.
The Aga Khan’s 8 day Canadian tour is in commemoration of his golden jubilee anniversary as Imam.
