Aga Khan Youth and Sports Board to organize blood and bone marrow drive Nov. 30

Members of the Aga Khan Youth and Sports organization in conjunction with American Red Cross are spearheading local efforts again this year for a blood and bone marrow drive to be held Nov. 30 from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the South Jamatkhana worship center located at 122 Flat Creek Trail off Ga. Highway 54 near Peachtree City.

Blood donors must be at least 17 year of age (or age 16 with parental consent) and weigh at least 110 pounds. Other restrictions apply, such as certain travel outside the United States and specific health conditions.

Information on bone marrow donations will be available at the blood drive event.

Blood donors are asked to eat a substantial meal with plenty of fluids 1-4 hours prior to donating.

Sixty percent of the U.S. population is eligible to donate blood but only 5 percent does so annually and one pint of blood can save three lives, according to American Red Cross.
