  1. one of the best jk’s you will see in the world.centrally located on Upanga road and very visible when driving.it was built almost 45 years ago and it is beautifully landscaped and well maintained.
whole jk is central a/c and a nice social hall on the main floor.
a must see when visiting Dar.

  2. I think this was one of the best designs of a jamatKhana during its time in Africa, whoever designed it, must have a had a great vision.

Do we know who the Designer was?.

  3. It was designed by an Ismaili who lived very close to JK in Upanga. His name was Jusab Kassam. I had a pleasure of meeting him before I decided to take up architecture. He was a a very simple and a quiet person though his actions spoke louder in his creations. He had no formal education but his visions carried his artistic skills to a level that was not known in those days.

  4. The Upanga Jamat Khana in Dar-s-salaam was designed by my uncle, Gulamhussein Jusab Kassam. He had an office in Mata-salaam Building and frequented “A” Tea Shop.

He had no formal education and worked as a mapper with the British Govt where he gain experience. He has designed a few jamat khanna in Tanzania, including Tabora. Also he designed many spectacular houses in Tanzania. He died in Pakistan in the seventies. RIP.
