Ice cream experience with a 60s flavour

–excerpt–

What many may not know is that this ice cream parlour has a rich history spanning 54 years making it the oldest ice cream parlour in Nairobi. Even with the surging competition Sno-Cream has refused to be obliterated into oblivion.

But even if prominent people are forgotten as soon as they step out of the parlour, the memory of the Aga Khan, spiritual head of Ismaili Community, still lingers in the minds of Sno-Cream owners.

In a display of respect to the spiritual leader, a congratulatory note he wrote thanking the Sno-Cream management for the delicious ice cream sent to him has been framed and placed right at the entrance of the premises.

His Highness signed the note on October 22, 1966. It was addressed to the then owner Amirali Hussein Merali and read: “My dear spiritual child, blessings for the delicious ice-cream you sent to me during my stay in Nairobi.”

It is with that historical touch that makes the place amazing.

  1. I have fond memories of the “ice-cream treat” as a child growing up in Nairobi. This is where all the worlds problems just dissolved.
