This illustrated lecture examines the inscriptions of Fatimid textiles and intends to uncover links with Andalusi textiles. The focus on the materiality of the inscriptions is not a mere exercise of style description; it rather endeavors to analyze the underlying principles for the efficacy of aesthetic visual choices, and to explore how ‘ways of doing’ are as important as are ‘ways of looking.’
