Planting fruit trees in Vancouver

Excerpt:

In 2005, he launched a project to plant hundreds of fruit trees in Vancouver to create an “urban orchard,” so people could have free fruit.

Last week, he put on his gardening clothes and headed down to New Brighton Park in east Vancouver to plant more than 50 apple trees with the help of Ismaili youth.

He estimates the mini-orchard will yield more than a ton of fruit, but the goal is to see hundreds of trees planted on underused city-owned sites to produce more than 4,500 kilograms of free fruit a year.
