Afghanistan’s international donors

ReutersAP – Afghanistan will ask international donors at a Paris conference on Thursday for $50 billion over five years to bolster its economy.

Following is a breakdown of the nearly $25 billion donated for Afghanistan’s reconstruction since 2001, according to the Agency Coordinating Body for Afghan Relief, an alliance of aid agencies. Its numbers are based on Afghan Ministry of Finance data provided in February 2008, in millions of U.S. dollars:

  1. This is a very interesting – the Aga Khan Foundation is one of only a small handful of the major donors to actually have disbursed all of, or more than, they had pledged! This speaks to the organisation’s credibility, as do the numerous outcomes reports of the organisation’s work, as conducted by the World Bank and CIDA, just to name a couple.
