KHOROG, April 25, Asia-Plus /Shonavruz Afzalshoyev/ — A working meeting on preparation of the first national forum of non-government organizations (NGOs) of Tajikistan was held in Khorog on April 24. Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, the project manager Shamsiddin Karimov said that the meeting had discussed two documents, which are the most important for development of the third sector, civic society, in the country – the code of the main principles of activity of Tajik NGOs and the national NGOs development program. According to him, the meeting participants also elected delegates for the national NGOs forum, which is expected to be held in late May. The forum is held under financial support of Civil Society Support Program of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). Bouribek Bouribekov, the head of the Khorog Civil Society Support Center Kalam, noted that some 100 NGOs currently operate in Gorno Badakhshan, playing an important role in tackling socioeconomic problems.

The meeting participants included 30 representatives of local NGOS; five of them were elected as delegates to the forum.
