Mombasa Hosts ‘Milad-e-Shariff’ Organized by H.H.Prince Aga Khan Shia Imami Council for Mombasa

Coastweek – – H. H. Prince Aga Khan Shia Imami Ismaili Council for Mombasa have hosted a most successful Milad-e-Shariff celebration in Mombasa under the banner of Ismaili Women’s Committee.

Both brothers and sisters of the Ummah attended this historical first Milad at the Aga Khan Sports Club Mombasa.

The Program commenced with the recitation of the Tilawat-e-Quran.

Next, Mr Shiraz D Alibhai, the Regional Vice-Chairman of the Madrassa Early Childhood Development Program made the introductions where he mentioned that The President of H.H.

Prince Aga Khan Council of Mombasa, Narmin Hanif Somji is the First Lady President in 130 years of institutional presence in Mombasa, and that this event was very historical as it comes during the 25 years celebration of The Madrassa Early Childhood Development Programme, which was celebrated in this very hall in the Presence of His Highness the Aga Khan in August, 2007.

His Highness was in Kenya to celebrate The Golden Jubilee of his Imamat.

Mr. Shiraz introduced all six speakers, one of whom was the Honourable Sheikh Mohammed Dor, Nominated MP and Hon. Secretary General of The Council Imams and Preachers Asso-ciation of Kenya.

President Narmin Hanif Somji also the Chief Guest opened the occasion and quoted the following from the Seerat Conference Speech by His Highness the Aga Khan in 1976 held in Karachi with world Muslim leaders:

“The Holy Prophet’s life gives us every fundamental guideline that we require to resolve the problem as successfully as our human minds and intellects can visualise.

“His example of integrity, loyalty, honesty, generosity both of means and of time, his solicitude for the poor, the weak and the sick, his steadfastness in friendship, his humility in success, his magnanimity in victory, his simplicity, his wisdom in conceiving new solutions for problems which could not be solved by traditional methods, without affecting the fundamental concepts of Islam, surely all these are foundations which, correctly understood and sincerely interpreted, must enable us to conceive what should be a truly modern and dynamic Islamic Society in the years ahead.”

The topics aptly covered by the speakers, Murshid Mohamed, Al’waez Shafin Verani, Sheikh Abdulrahman Mwinifaki, and Al’waez Waffyahmed Kotaria, Karim Ali Raza were ‘Iqra’, Islam: Religion of peace, tolerance and submission, Quran – Word of Allah, Worship and practice, and Prophets Life – Role Model in Contemporary Living.

Next was a Qaseeda in praise of Prophet Mohamed (Peace be upon him), which was sung beautifully by Amurnisa Pirbhai and music to many ears.

The last speaker of the day was Honorable Nominated MP Sheikh Mohammed Dor whose presentation on Islamic Ethics was excellent, concise and to the point.

Naaz Ramji, the Master of Ceremonies, handled the proceedings of the Milad in a professional manner.

Councillor Zubeida Dadani, the Chairman of Ismaili Women’s Committee concluded with a vote of thanks.

The President Narmin Somji gave the speakers tokens of appreciation.

These tokens are book marks commemorating the Golden Jubilee of His Highness the Aga Khan, produced for distribution world wide, gold plated and symbolic of “READ” an intellectual mark.

The invitees were very appreciative of the function and the general consensus was that this should be an annual event.
