KARIMABAD, Pakistan–In winter, chilly winds blow down from the Karakoram mountain range that spans the borders with China and India through the Hunza region of northern Pakistan.
In spring, however, this highland area, which sits about 2,400 meters above sea level, is a vast sea of apricot and cherry blossoms.
This is Shangri-La, the mysterious world known for the longevity of its denizens. Its central city is Karimabad.
