Prominent Ismaili Academics to speak at Gujarati Studies Association Conference, Toronto

Prominent Ismaili Academics have been scheduled to speak at the Gujarati Studies Association 2nd Biennial Conference “Identities: Reflections on Global Gujarati Communities”, May 23-24, 2008, University of Toronto. The keynote address will be delivered by Professor Ali S. Asani of Harvard University. Dr. Shafique Virani of the University of Toronto will present a paper “Journey to the Roof of the World: English Readings of Gujarati Literature”. Professor Karim Gillani of University of Alberta will speak on “Music and Identity: The Diaspora Ismaili Muslim community in North America and Garba Folk Dance Tradition from Gujarat”. Mohamed Keshavjee of SOAS will speak on “The Ugandan Expulsion: 35 years later”. Dr. Anjoom Mukadam and Pyarali Keshwani of the Institute of Ismaili Studies have also been scheduled to speak.
