KUALA LUMPUR: Commercial activities and growth centres must not be confined to certain cities or areas of the country because the fruits of development must be enjoyed by all as widely as possible, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
This, he said, had inspired the Government’s launch of the Iskandar Development Region in the southern part of the country, the Northern Corridor Development Region and soon, the Eastern Corridor Development Region for Sabah and Sarawak.
“We are determined to bring progress and development to the less developed parts of Malaysia,” he said last night at the Aga Khan Award for Architecture’s presentation ceremony held at the Philharmonic Hall in the Petronas Twin Towers, which was the award recipient in 2004.
Abdullah said the Government was equally determined to bring modernity without spoiling the country’s natural beauty or disrupting the eco-system and lives of the people.
