Welcome to the first edition of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Newsletter for Serena Hotels. Much has been spoken about CSR, but perhaps readers will appreciate a brief clarification of what it actually means. Basically, CSR encapsulates the responsibility that is owed by all corporations to the community that supports them. Such responsibility can take many forms; such as, the corporate responsibility towards ensuring that the environment is preserved and nurtured in a sustainable manner; the corporate responsibility towards ensuring the overall well being of the people that it employs, the standards of health care, education and sanitation of the community within which the corporation exists; and the degree to which it contributes to the economic health of the country within which it operates.
At Serena Hotels, we believe in taking a holistic approach to our corporate social responsibilities and, over the past decade, we have evolved a comprehensive CSR policy, which, we believe, addresses the many aspects of this crucial corporate characteristic. No corporation, however, can operate in a vacuum, so our CSR policy, like the world in which we live, is in constant evolution.
