EDMONTON — Last year, Cathy Potvin and Rudy Kolodychuk took their red and white finery to Ottawa to celebrate Canada Day. The year before, they were in Dawson City for the July 1 celebration.

…..

At the legislature, hundreds of people took in the various activities that started with a free pancake breakfast put on by the Edmonton Ismaili Community.

Eunice Belinski, her shoulders draped with the flag, started the day with the pancake breakfast and then took in the citizenship ceremony where new Canadians were sworn in.

Being a Canadian is a source of great pride, Belinski said.

“I wouldn’t trade it for anything because we have freedom and peace.”
