CHITRAL: As many as 60 houses, a middle school and a government godown were swept away as floods triggered by glacier-melting continued playing havoc with the Snoghar village of Upper Chitral on Sunday.
However, the 600-year-old shrine of a religious figure remained miraculously safe despite heavy floods in the village.
The glacier is reportedly still melting owing to which some 400 families have been displaced. The affected people have been marooned on the mountains for the last two days. The floods also destroyed standing crops and trees.
In the meantime, the rescue teams succeeded in shifting some 3,000 people to safer places. District Nazim Maghfirat Shah was supervising the rescue activities.
