MA in Muslim Cultures

This course offers a distinctive way of understanding the cultures of Muslims as they have evolved over time. The course will employ the tools of the humanities and social sciences as a framework for learning. The MA stresses the plurality and complexity of Muslim cultures, studies them as part of world cultures, and encompasses prevalent currents of thought as well as marginal and sharply contested perspectives. Students will develop an understanding of the character not only of Muslim cultures historically, but also of the complex social, political and economic processes that they are undergoing in the contemporary world.
