PESHAWAR (APP): Members Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) Chitral briefed representative of Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) during a need assessment meeting here on Friday. Inayatullah Aseer Secretary of CCI briefed the ADB and AKF representatives regarding various options that if materialized could help generate sizeable revenue for the backward Chitral district. He said that Tajikistan is situated only at a distance of 200 km from Chitral and 700 KM from Islamabad. He said by constructing two and three kilometer tunnels at different points, the district could easily be connected with Tajikistan and improve trade potential via Lowari pass. He aid Badakhshan, Nooristan, Skardu and Chaqasrai were parts of Chitral State until 1914. The British Army arrived here on the request of Mehtari Chitral (Ruler) in 1876 during Russian invasion. Chitral district is collecting Rs.300 million annual funds from Octroi. The collection of border taxes being generated through trade activities with the bordering countries was stopped when it merged in Pakistan in 1969. He said all weather route could be easily be built from Chitral to Tajikistan which will usher in green revolution in the country.
