Drosh sports tourney concludes
CHITRAL,18 Dec 06: To create awareness among the masses about HIV/AIDS, a tournament was held at Drosh. 40 cricket teams participated in the tournament to persuade the public to fight against HIV/AIDS. The tournament was organized by Young Star Sports and Welfare Society Drosh with collaboration of Innovation Poverty Reduction Project (IPRP), Aga Khan Rural Support Program (AKRSP) and Swiss Development Corporation (SDC). In this connection the final cricket math was played between All Star Cricket Team Shishikooh and Lucky Sport Club Koro Drosh. All star team defeated the rival team by 62 runs. Tehsil Nazim Chitral Sartaj Ahmad Khan was chief guest on
the occasion. The chief guest announced rupees 2000 cash prize for the winner team and awarded trophy to Shah Nawaz captain of the winner team, 1000 cash prize and cup to Samiullah captain of runner up team, 3000 for young star and sports welfare society as well as 5000 for burying of un-claimed dead bodies. He congratulated the winner team. Zakir Hussain was declared man of the match as well also man of the tournament.
A simple function was also held here in this regard. M. Abbas presented welcome address and highlighted aims and objectives of the society which was established in 1987 by some youth working on voluntary basis. A free tuition center was opened by the society at Drosh to educate maximum people of the area. He said members of YSSWS Drosh donated 3000 pound free blood to deserving patients. They buried 7 unclaimed dead bodies and one was shifted to Swat via Afghanistan . They administered anti polio vaccines to children among 3000 households. It excavated 11 water wells benefiting 211 house holds for potable drinking water. They launched a pine nut roast machine at Sheshi valley for alleviation of poverty and the society was awarded Quaid e Azam Gold Medal Award. He demanded for opening of Osiak play ground for general public.
Haji Abdul Hameed President Trade Union Drosh also hailed meritorious services of society especially of Asfandiar Khan President of YSSWS. He demanded for a public play ground to boost young players of the area to enabling them for participation in national teams. He appreciated efforts of Tehsil Nazim for restoration of electricity. He also paid rich tribute to Muhammad Riaz Line Superintendent of General Supply Operation staff who worked day and night at the top of Lawari pass and restored power supply. He lamented PTCL which was out of order in dark days due to failure of their battery. He demanded for 4 wheel vehicle for GSO staff and full equipments to overcome their problems.
Salahuddin Tofan presented a poem hailing the services of young star society members. Tehsil Nazim appreciated youth of the area for their sports activities and assured them of solving their problems related to sports. He stressed upon the young generation for keen interest in their studies and also in sports because he quoted ‘their hospitals remain full whose play grounds are empty’. He said that we have already appealed to President Musharaf for stadium but we have no fund for land purchase. He said that an open katchery will be held here at Drosh to solve your problems at your door step. He also announced that play ground of Chitral Scouts at Osiak will be opened for public in near future. He announced for establishment of local hydro power stations within the district to solve power supply problems, and demanded from the high up of water and power ministry for providing of walky talky, uniform and other equipment for GSO staff and for appointment of 2 line superintendents. He appreciated efforts of XEN, SDO and Line superintendent of GSO. He also assured for re-opening of Lawari pass for traffic immediately. Later on he distributed trophy, cup and awards among the best players. Tehsil Nazim also announced for establishment of a Cricket Academy here at Drosh
