Training programmes for teachers on anvil

KARACHI: Dr Hameeda Khuhro, Sindh Minister for Education and Literacy has said that her ministry will initiate training programmes for teachers of elementary and education colleges to be trained by the Aga Khan University — Institute for Educational Development (AKU-IED).

Dr Khuhro was talking to the media after the conclusion of a day-long media workshop titled ìImpact of the Northern Pakistan Education Programme organised by Aga Khan Education Service, Pakistan (AKES-P) in collaboration with the European Commission (EU), at a local hotel on Thursday.

She was asked the reason why the teachers in the government institutions were doing poorly and whether it was possible that they could be trained anew by some competent trainers like AKU-IED. She admitted that the teachers were poorly trained and better training for them was long due so her ministry will engage AKU-IED.

She reiterated her instance that she will go to the Supreme Court of Pakistan to seek upturning of the Sindh High Court verdict, which termed the Sindh Government’s banning of teachers associations as unlawful. Siddique Bhatti, Development Advisor, European Commission presented an overview of the EU’s engagement in Pakistan with particular reference to the education development in Pakistan.
