KARACHI: Two hundred and seventy-three students were conferred degrees and diplomas at the nineteenth convocation of the Aga Khan University Saturday with Senate Chairman Muhammadmian Soomro as chief guest.

“This familiar landmark is no longer the exclusive preserve of Karachi or of Pakistan as other countries are also now benefiting from AKU, a national university with international reach,” Soomro said during his address.

In his address, Prince Karim Aga Khan said that the great and central question facing the Ummah today was how it will relate to the Knowledge Society of tomorrow. “One answer which can be shared across the whole of the Ummah is

that we must become full and even leading participants in the Knowledge Society of 21st Century,” the Aga Khan said

Gov hosts reception for Aga Khan

KARACHI: A reception in the honour of Prince Karim Aga Khan was hosted Friday at Governor House by Dr Ishratul Ibad.

Ibad apprised the guest about the ongoing development projects in different sectors, including education, health, investment and industry. He told the Aga Khan about the renovation of ancient historical places in Sindh, the restoration of Jehangir Kothari Parade and Bagh-e-Ibn-e-Qasim in Clifton.

Ibad thanked the Aga Khan Foundation and the Ismaili community for cooperating with the government for projects related to the educational, health, and industrial sectors. Earlier, a delegation belonging to an Iranian group, Dallahoo, led by Masood Habibi called on the governor. ppi

273 graduates awarded degrees at AKU convocation
Soomro praises the university for its contribution to health, education

KARACHI: Senate Chairman Mohammedmian Soomro, while appreciating the qualitative medical teaching and healthcare facility provided by the Aga Khan University, said that this familiar landmark had come a long way since its establishment.

He was addressing at the 19th Aga Khan University Convocation on Saturday during which 273 graduates were awarded degrees. Among the 273 graduates, who successfully completed their academic programme, 75 received nursing diplomas, 63 graduates of the School of Nursing were awarded Bachelor of Science, 6 of them were awarded Masters of Science in Nursing.

Eighty-one graduates received Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at the Medical College, seven were awarded Masters degree in Epidemiology and Biostatistics, and eight were awarded Master’s in Health Policy and Management. At the Institute for Educational Development 33 Masters were awarded degree.

  1. Thank you! AKU. I am a graduate of MSc in Epi & Bio-2006. The two year experience as a student at AKU was really wonderful. I owe my sincere thanks to my teachers, friends, fellows and family for their kind support throught the toughest times in my life. At the end I did it with four distinctions in courses and one in thesis. AKU is no doubt a prestigous institute in Pakistan and I am proud of being part of AKU-family and I am sure that all of AKU grads have the same feeling.
