Aga Khan gets Uganda representative

A new resident representative has been posted to Uganda to coordinate activities of the Aga Khan Development Network.

Mr Mahmood H. Ahmed presented his credentials to the State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Okello Oryem, in Kampala yesterday.

Mahmood Ahmed briefed the minister about his responsibilities, which include economic, social and cultural development. The Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development caters for tourism, industrial, financial, media and Aviation services promotion. Social development aspects are carried on through the Aga Khan Foundation, Aga Khan University, University of Central Asia, Aga Khan Educational Services, Aga Khan Health Services and the Aga Khan Planning and Building Services.

Oryem praised His Highness the Aga Khan for promoting development in Uganda. He briefed the guest about the on going peace process in Juba, Sudan and the preparations for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting due in 2007.

The minister encouraged the guest and other development partners to participate in the recovery and resettlement of the population displaced by the war in north.
