Canada | Dr Shela Hirani Awarded Two Prestigious Awards by Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan

Dr Shela Hirani, University of Regina’s Professor, received the 2025 Dr Garth Pickard Award for Post-Secondary Excellence in Education for Sustainable Development, and the Regional Centres of Expertise (RCE)-Saskatchewan Education for Sustainable Development Recognition Award.

These prestigious awards were presented to Dr Shela Hirani by The Right Honorable Bernadette McIntyre, Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan during the RCE Saskatchewan Awards Event held on May 30, 2025.

These recognitions were awarded by RCE Saskatchewan – a voluntary network of individuals, organizations, and experts committed to using education as a tool for working toward a sustainable future as defined by the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These awards recognized the impact of Dr Shela Hirani’s innovative “Breastfeeding Advocacy Research Hub” offering over 60 easy-to-understand evidence-based e-resources for mothers, general public and stakeholders. These resources reached over 200,000 mothers worldwide and build the capacity of over 5000 professionals and service provider. The initiative has shown strong commitment to sustainable development by raising maternal and public awareness on importance of breastfeeding and advocating for baby-friendly initiatives in Canada and beyond.
