Karachi's Green Space Crisis: A Call to Action by Aga Khan University and New York University's Centre for Health Data Science

Researchers from Aga Khan University (AKU) and New York University, including Dr. Rumi Chunara, Associate Professor and Director at NYU’s Centre for Health Data Science, have exposed Karachi’s severe green space deficit, with just 4.17 square meters per person—less than half of the WHO’s recommended minimum. This shortage amplifies climate risks and public health challenges, especially for vulnerable communities. The findings highlight an urgent need for green infrastructure initiatives, including urban reforestation and park revitalization, to ensure a healthier, more sustainable future for Karachi’s residents.
