Aswan Prepares for the Funeral of Aga Khan IV, Welcomes Prince Rahim Aga Khan and Family
(translated) February 9, 2025. Mohamed Awad. Aswan has received Prince Rahim Aga Khan and his family in preparation for the official funeral ceremonies of the late Prince Karim Al-Hussaini Aga Khan IV, the 49th Imam of the Ismaili community, who passed away last Tuesday evening in Lisbon, Portugal.
According to a press release issued by the Aswan Governorate on Saturday evening, the Governor of Aswan was present at the reception, accompanied by his deputy, Engineer Amr Lashin, along with Major General Pilot Ahmed El-Baz, Director of the Airport, and Dr. Hanan El-Gendy, Executive Director of the Umm Habeeba Foundation.
The Aswan Governorate has coordinated with all relevant authorities to ensure thorough preparations for the funeral ceremonies of the late Aga Khan IV. On Sunday morning, Aswan—often referred to as the “Flower of the South”—will witness the official funeral procession. The procession will begin in front of the tomb of the late literary giant Abbas Al-Akkad and continue to Dr. Magdi Yacoub Square. From there, the funeral will proceed via several Nile boats to the western bank of the Nile River, where the body will be laid to rest at the tomb of the third Aga Khan.
