ATLANTA – Georgia: Honours keep piling for Dr. Gulshan Harjee, an Ismaili medical doctor in Atlanta.
She has been presented with the distinction in community service award by the Emory School of Medicine.
This particular award was for her extraordinary service to the community in the field of education.
Dr. Harjee co-founded the Clarkson community Health care Center, a non-profit organization providing comprehensive health care to the underserviced community.
Since 1992, the doctor has served on the board of UNICEF’s Campaign USA and the Georgia Breast Cancer Coalition.
She has been the president and chief executive officer of First Medical Care Inc. in Atlanta, U.S.A.
In 2015, she was presented with the John Houston Allen Humanitarian Award.
This award recognized her distinguished achievements and meritorious service that bridged religious and ethnic background to make the world a better place.
For many years, Harjee has been involved in helping the unemployed, homeless and the refugee communities get much-needed healthcare.
A native of Tanzania, Dr. Harjee was first forced to move to Pakistan at the age of 16 to continue her education and again to Iran to attend college and medical school and then once again to the United States after the Iranian revolution.
Dr. Harjee is the recipient of multiple humanitarian awards.
She has been in Atlanta for the past 37 years, is married to Zul Devji, an economist who was educated in Uganda and England.
Dear Dr. Gulshan Harjee,
I am so proud of you for the amount of good work you are doing supporting the Ultra Poor in Pakistan at the Indus Hospital and supporting the Jamaat at large in the U.S.
