William Osler Health System palliative care physician, Dr. Naheed Dosani was awarded the Meritorious Service Cross from Governor General Julie Payette.
The prestigious national honour recognizes Dr. Dosani for being a trailblazer in providing mobile end-of-life care for the homeless and those with unreliable housing.
Founder and team leader of Toronto-based Palliative Education and Care for the Homeless (PEACH), he treats an often neglected population with dignity and compassion, whether in a shelter or on the street. A first in Canada, the model of care has inspired similar programs in Edmonton, Calgary, Victoria and Seattle.
In our region, Dr. Dosani’s work includes researching the impact of immigration and culture on the perception of palliative care among the South Asian community.
