Rare Performing Arts Traditions from Pakistan at the Aga Khan Museum

Umair Jaffer, the Aga Khan Museum’s Manager of Performing Arts, discusses the diversity of Pakistan’s cultural and musical heritage, exploring rare recordings of desert songs from Cholistan and Sufi music from Sindh’s sacred shrines.

Journey with Umair Jaffar across Pakistan from the highlands of the Karakorams to the bright blue waters of the Makran coast to uncover musical traditions at risk of extinction.

Umair Jaffar is the Manager of Performing Arts at the Aga Khan Museum. Prior to arriving in Canada, he founded the Institute for Preservation of Art and Culture (also known as IPAC), a non-profit social enterprise based in Pakistan that works towards the preservation and promotion of the country’s traditional art forms.
