The Aga Khan Museum is a beautiful, architectural space that houses a finite collection yet never feels lacking. To set expectations, this is not the Met in NY with an overwhelming number of artifacts. It is more comparable to the Islamic museum in Doha. The Aga Khan Museum in Toronto curates significant and appropriate pieces and showcases them through descriptive explanations. It can be a teaching, learning or just absorbing the culture experience. Their temporary exhibits are contemporary to what Is happening in the world and the context shows Islamic contribution to societies and communities.
The museum uses technology to bring exhibits to life as seen in the current exhibit: Syria A living history, where you use a tablet to view a full color Syrian home with some pieces right in front of you.
