Navroz Janmohamed, CPA, CA, a partner at Vancouver-based chartered professional accounting firm Manning Elliott, has some important advice for not-for-profit organizations (NPOs).
What kind of oversight or governance should a not-for-profit organization have?
For any organization to be successful, it requires a strong board to govern the organization. The board is accountable to the membership, and to various stakeholders and the community at large. The board also plays an important role in the hiring of management. When an organization is established the right board can make all the difference. There should be a job description for the board as well, so they understand any implications their policies may have on the organization and community.

Navroz began his career at Manning Elliott in January 2001 as a Simon Fraser University Co-op student. He began working full-time in 2003 after graduating from the program with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, majoring in accounting. In 2005, Navroz successfully passed the Uniform Evaluation to obtain his Chartered Accountant designation.
When Navroz is away from the office, he enjoys spending time with his wife and family. He also participates and watches a number of sports – especially hockey, football and basketball. Plus, he’s an avid music fan and attends concerts when the opportunity arises. –
