Pakistan’s short film by the Ismaili filmmakers from Hunza making the rounds of International Film FestivalsBy Mahnur Sultan for Express Pakistan

LIGHTS! CAMERA! ACTION! Who says Pakistan is talent-less or Pakistanis can’t break typical trends of film making. From Punjab to Khyber and from Khyber to Gilgit Baltistan Pakistan has golden seeds of creativity. This country has individuals who are capable of making miraculous impressions. Our generation has reached to a point where NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE. Now there are countless schools that provide degrees of film-making. We have young dynamic and outclass filmmakers. Who are doing tremendous job.

Here I am talking about two passionate young men, their work is novel itself: Zeeo Zia and Fayeem Avzl. They have shaped the documentary film SHUPUN XIZ – The Last Wakhi Shepherdess, which is flying really high in the international film festivals. This documentary film has knocked doors of 6 film festivals across the world. The film already won The Best Cinematography Award in Early Bird Film Festival Bulgaria and this month again the second award from Zero Plus Film Festival Russia for The Best Cinematography.

Shupun Xik – The Last of the Wakhi Shepherdess is a documentary film about a courageous and determined shepherdess who left her home to live in the pasture with her live stock confronting the harsh environment to keep the century old tradition of shepherding alive.
