Dr. Bashir Jiwani

Living with others who are different from ourselves is an inescapable dimension of the contemporary global context. Rice University’s Boniuk Institute, the Aga Khan Council for the Southwestern US and Interfaith Ministries of Greater Houston present Dr. Bashir Jiwani, Lead Ethicist and Director of Fraser Health Ethics Services and Diversity Services who will argue that encounters with others can and should be seen as opportunities for transformation leading to greater integrity and clearer identity. Seeing difference in this way requires a pluralist response to identity, which requires commitments to the values of trust, respect, honesty, and humility. Living with integrity requires living up to this value, which in turn requires skills of ethical literacy.
Dr. Bashir Jiwani is Ethicist and Director for Fraser Health Ethics Services, whose mandate includes clinical and organizational ethics and diversity services. Bashir is an experienced speaker, having done hundreds of workshops and presentations across the country and internationally. He speaks on issues in ethics and health ethics both for academic audiences and to health care administrators, providers, patients and the lay public.
