Sofia Suleman’s take on Photography, Nature & Life

Sofia Suleman is a 15 year old budding photographer in grade 10 high school. Born in the United States and raised in Canada, Sofia is grateful to her family, especially her grandparents who have taught her to follow the ethics of the faith. Sofia loves humanity and nature and is always kind and humble, teaching others the knowledge that she has gained. Her upbringing, her successes and failures, have made her the person she is today.

At school, Sofia is in the French immersion program. She enjoys history, civics and careers, English, French and family studies. Her hobbies include public speaking, reading, watching movies/tv, yoga, singing and above all else, photography are closest to her heart.

Sofia’s interest in photography was piqued by seeing her best friend’s work. She learned soon enough that you don’t need the best of the best equipment to take an amazing shot. You just need to have a decent camera, or phone camera, and a point of view.

Sofia recently participated in one of the community centre’s educational program, where she observed: “In BUI we had an arts program and one of the activity was photography which I gravitated towards. Our assignment during the time period was to take six to eight pictures answering one of the three questions that was provided. My question was to take the pictures from the perspective of something, somewhere or someone. I chose to take my pictures in the perspectives of ‘Nature and its Surroundings'”. She further introspected, “I felt that out of all my personal options this topic represented me the most and I felt like I can capture an interesting perspective from God’s creation. She reflected further on selecting the best possible perspective, out of hundreds of shots, “…at the end of my project, I had taken over a hundred shots and it was a difficult process of picking the “best” shots because each shot has a different perspective and everyone had different opinions and thoughts about the shots; I wanted everyone’s perspectives to be different and for them to relate my shots to their daily lives was an honour. After this project, I found a new hobby which I have for life which I’m eternally grateful for.”
