A talk by Professor Naweed I. Syed on Brain-machine hybrids: Exploring new frontiers
Karachi, August 31, 2016: Professor Naweed I. Syed, the first scientist to connect brain cells to a silicon chip, will deliver a lecture on ‘Brain-machine hybrids: Exploring new frontiers’ at the Aga Khan University’s Special Lecture Series on September 6, 2016.
Dr Syed, a Pakistani scientist working in Canada and recently awarded the Tamgah-I-Imtiaz, helped the world achieve a great milestone. This discovery will significantly help in the research of integrating computers with the human brains in order to help monitor vital signs, to control artificial limbs, to correct memory loss and to restore lost vision.
He currently works as a Professor at the University of Calgary’s Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy.
As part of its commitment to broad based education, Aga Khan University organises and hosts its Special Lecture Series throughout the academic year. These lectures are now a city cultural event in their own right.
