Sindhiya Alwani: Defining the Line in School Playgrounds

Did you know that 56% of the bullying in school takes place in the school playground? During 85% of bullying incidents that occurred on a Canadian elementary school play grounds in 2011, peers watched the bullying happen. In fact, 21% of the time peers joined in the bullying! However, when the peers intervened, the bullying usually ended within 10 seconds. As students, parents and teachers, we are all concerned about bullying in schools spaces. Many schools and other independent organizations invest a lot of resources to address this growing concern. But, to be able to address this issue, first we need to understand behaviours related to bullying.
