Merani family raises $200K in son’s memory

THOROLD — Moe Merani is proud of the way the community has stepped up to keep his son Arif’s legacy alive.

Arif died Oct. 15, 2013, but Merani, his family and friends are “continuing with Arif’s legacy, his dream and his vision, through his eyes.” Through events such as the Oct. 23 benefit night at John Michael’s Banuqet Hall, more than $200,000 has been raised over the last two years in Arif’s name and memory.

“I am so sure, Arif is now smiling down at us all from the heavens above,” said Merani, quick to give credit to everyone involved – his family members, friends, community members and complete strangers who have supported the various events over the years.

It’s been a team effort for the Meranis, who established the Arif Merani Fundraising Group.
