About 5,000 North Texas residents participated in the annual Aga Khan Foundation Walk-Run Dallas Oct. 10 at the Irving Convention Center. The event was an initiative of the Aga Khan Foundation to raise awareness and funds for programs that work with communities around the world to build better futures.

The event raised $1.35 million, which reflects the strong support of participants and sponsors across the area, including national sponsor Coca-Cola Company. All net proceeds from the event go directly to projects supported by the Aga Khan Foundation.
Mayor Pro Tem Dennis Webb and City Council member Gerald Farris took part in the opening ceremonies.
