Coastweek– Over 200 pre-primary school teachers in Mombasa County are set to benefit from specialised further training thanks to an agreement between the county government and the Aga Khan Foundation, East Africa (AKF (EA)).
In a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the two institutions in Mombasa’s Central Girls Primary School, Tononoka on Tuesday September 15, 2015, the two institutions cemented a productive relationship that has grown over the years.
The MoU is for a period of five years.
“As Governor, I am determined to see the education standards in our county improve. We will work with like-minded partners such as AKF (EA), to whom we are grateful for the good work they do in our county, to attain this objective,” Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho said.
AKF (EA’s) Director for Policy and Partnerships Shem Ochola, said, “We hope this initiative will transform the classroom experience of learners and help lift the education standards in Mombasa County.”
Under the MoU, AKF (EA) will provide specialised in-service hands-on training on early childhood development teaching practices in 100 government schools and other public and private institutions in the county, while the county government will allocate and disburse funds from its budget to facilitate the training of teachers and to provide mentoring and support during and after training.
