Using his own wits and pocketbook, this B.C. lawyer is taking on Prime Minister Stephen Harper with a legal action against what he calls the PM’s “deliberate failure” to fill empty seats in the Senate. He claims that by refusing to advise the governor general to fill vacant Senate seats, Harper is “breaching the principles of federalism, democracy, constitutionalism, the rule of law, and protection of minorities.” In mid-May the government lost its bid to have Alani’s case dismissed.
