April 14, 2015: Now all AKUH patients will receive notifications about the completion of their lab reports directly on their cell phones. Depending upon circumstances, certain bacterial cultures develop within 72 hours. In order to treat such conditions at the earliest, the timing for getting the reports can prove to be critical. Recognizing this, Aga Khan University Hospital has started SMS Alert Service for blood culture reports for all its patients.
“This is another step towards improving patient experience. Patients will now receive real time information as soon as the report is signed out,” said Sohail Baloch, Senior Administrator, Clinical Laboratories. “It is one step closer to excellence in health care that we as a premier healthcare organization strive to provide.”
As soon as the tests have been completed, an SMS is sent to the patient’s registered cell phone number. Patients can then collect their reports from either Soparivala Building from the Stadium Road campus or the nearest collection point. This real time information initiative has been introduced to facilitate patients in collecting their reports earlier. This service has facilitated both doctors and patients in timely diagnosis and treatment.
Initially, this service was introduced for Histopathology Department (clinicians and patients) of AKUH, who responded quite positively to the alert service. The service is now active for all patients of AKUH.
