Niagara Falls hotelier Faisal Merani received the Business Person of the Year award during Friday’s Niagara USA Chamber Honors event

The Niagara USA Chamber honored local business people and commerce in Niagara County at its annual dinner held Friday at the Seneca Niagara Casino and Hotel Event Center.
Representatives from the county’s lead business advocacy group handed out seven awards to businesses and industry persons across the county, including Falls hotelier Faisal Merani who was recognized as business person of the year and Yahoo’s Lockport operation, which was named the 2015 business of the year.

Merani is the president of the Merani Hotel Group who made the jump from Ontario across the river in 2005 with the Holiday Inn in downtown Niagara Falls. He followed in 2007 with the Four Points Sheraton and will establish his Double Tree Hilton in the spring of 2014. The chamber credited him as being a major force in enhancing the tourist experience in city.
“There’s many people here tonight who have been in this city longer than I have,” Merani said. “It’s a great honor to get the award, it is quite humbling.”

Merani Hotel Group made its mark by acquiring hotels on both sides of the border. Merani’s vision for the future of Niagara Falls includes renovations to the Holiday Inn Niagara Falls and a Doubletree by Hilton set to open in 2016.
