The ICAA Merit Awards honour those Chartered Accountants who epitomize the best of the profession—those professionals who have given extensively and selflessly their time, talent and expertise in service of a wide variety of communities, organizations, and causes. This year, Merit Awards were granted in three categories: Fellows of the Chartered Accountants, Distinguished Service, and Early Achievement.
Fellows of The Chartered Accountants
Firoz Talakshi FCA
Firoz was elected to the KPMG Canada partnership in 1985, and for most of his career, he focused on advising clients on income tax matters. Prior to his retirement as a partner, he headed KPMG Calgary’s 11-person team of international corporate tax specialists. From 2006 to 2009, Firoz also led KPMG’s international corporate tax practice in Canada. His expertise in the tax area is exemplary, and he has shared this expertise in a number of ways. During his career, Firoz has presented papers at various professional organizations including the Canadian Tax Foundation, the Canadian Petroleum Tax Society and the Tax Executives Institute. He also has authored numerous papers in a variety of professional journals.
Firoz has also given back to the community in many ways, particularly through his service to the Ismali Muslim community. From 1987 to 2012, he served in senior positions on various institutions established in Canada by His Highness the Aga Khan, including as member of the National Committee of the Aga Khan Foundation of Canada, chair of the Economic Planning Board for Canada. Currently Firoz serves on the University of Calgary’s Board of Governors.
