Tanzania: Aga Khan Hospital, Dar es Salaam devises plan to support government health care delivery

THE Aga Khan Hospital is finalising discussions with Amana Regional Referral Hospital to embark on a Public Private Partnership (PPP) to improve health services

The Aga Khan Regional Chief Executive Officer (RCEO), Mr Suleiman Shahabuddin, said the relationship will among other activities, allow Amana hospital to refer patients to Aga Khan Hospital.

Mr Shahabuddin made the remarks during a presentation to the Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner (RC), Mr Saidi Meck Sadiki, when briefing him of the hospitals expansion plans which will cost around 79.8 million US dollars.

Expansion plans will include increasing the current number of beds from 74 to 158 by 2018 and add two wings at the current hospital grounds.

The expansion of the Aga Khan hospital in Dar es Salaam  will also encompasses the establishment of tertiary level programmes at the hospital by 2018.

He further said that as a result of this development, Tanzanians will no longer have to travel abroad to receive top class and quality health care.

“Tanzania is progressing very fast in terms of development and we all want to create a system in the health sector such that we can all be partners in the growth of the nation …

We are working tirelessly to make sure that our hospital expands its services by increasing the physical infrastructure and facilities and by improving health services so as to serve more Tanzanians.”

RC Sadiki commended Aga Khan for providing excellent health services. He said the Aga Khan Hospital has played a vital role in providing services that were previously found in hospitals out of the country, thereby assisting the government cut down on costs of taking patients abroad or to neighbouring countries for treatment.
