UHD President William Flores recently served as the keynote speaker for the kick-off event of the 2014 Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) Partnership Walk/Run to End Global Poverty.
Funds raised through the Partnership Walk in Houston and other cities throughout the nation are used to build schools, irrigation systems, train teachers, provide health care and develop sustainable economies. AKF USA promotes self-sufficiency to empower communities to overcome poverty, hunger, illiteracy and illness in Asia and Africa.
The event also honored eight individuals who will serve as emissaries for the Partnership Walk, including Katya Glockner Dow, Monira Hamid–Kundi, Misti Pace- Krahl, Teresa Cox Reading, Rick Pal, Huma Nawab Haider, Noreen Khan-Mayberry and Lily Zhang.
