ROSHAN THOMAS, pioneering educationalist in Afghanistan, “a hero for our times.”
A statement from Dr Siva Kumari, Director General of the International Baccalaureate.
We mourn one of our own
….an outstanding IB parent who created a better world for children in Kabul
The IB community is deeply and immeasurably saddened to hear that Roshan Thomas was one among nine who lost her life in the shooting rampage in Hotel Serena in Kabul last Thursday. This is horrific news. Our thoughts and prayers are with Roshan’s family at this time of unfathomable grief.
It was heartbreaking to read the email getting off a plane from Singapore to Amsterdam, after having met so many in Singapore who were dedicated to the IB’s values of service. What followed was a barrage of emails from staff, current and former board members, current Chair and former Chair all expressing notable sentiments about losing Roshan. As that reaction made clear, Roshan was a woman we all admired for her passion for education.
