Meet Sulfyna Murji: AKF Run Team for Boston Marathon

Sulfyna Murji, one of three runners who will wear the AKF Run Team logo in the 2014 Boston Marathon, says she’s thrilled and a little daunted by the challenge. “I’m not your typical marathoner,” Sulfyna admits. A mother of two young boys and an education professional, she has always had the iconic Boston marathon on her bucket list. Running in it to raise funds for Aga Khan Foundation USA (AKF USA), in this first race since the 2013 bombing tragedy, is her way to champion courage and compassion over fear and extremism. “I believe actions speak louder than words.” She has lived in Central Asia and witnessed the impact of AKF programs on poor communities. “In many ways it changes the trajectory of their lives,” she says. Motivated particularly by AKF programs that help children, she has set herself the steep fundraising goal of $1,000 per mile: $26,200 total! Watch the video to learn how she is digging deep for this once-in-a-lifetime race, and how she envisions reaching the finish line.
